Missions & Evangelism

Missions and evangelism is the heartbeat of our church. It is our desire to reach our community, our country and our world with the gospel of Jesus Christ! We want every man, woman, boy and girl to know that Jesus Christ died on the cross to redeem them from their sins! Acts 1:8 serves as the biblical basis for our approach to missions and evangelism:

"But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

We want to be used of God to reach our Jerusalem (our community); our Judea (our state); our Samaria (our country); and the ends of the earth (the whole world)!

1. Our Community: Each & every week a group leaves the four walls of our church and we venture out into our community. We knock on doors and we tell anyone who will listen about the saving grace of the Lord Jesus Christ! We are commited to doing as much as we can to get the gospel to our neighbors in NW Houston!

2. Our State: Texas is the largest state within the continental U.S. Everything is bigger in Texas they say; and with more people the task of sharing the gospel most certainly proves this to be true. Westway is a part of the Southern Baptist of Texas Convention, a state convention with a heart for missions and evangelism. Through our financial giving we are able to help plant churches and sponsor various ministry groups who focus on reaching Texas for Christ!

3. Our Country: We are also a part of the Southern Baptist Convention. The SBC is a national convention of Southern Baptist Churches who have partnered together to reach the world for Jesus Christ. The North American Mission Board (NAMB) is an entity under the direction of the SBC. NAMB's focus is to spread the gospel throughout all of North America (U.S., Canada and Mexico). Through our financial giving we help to support more than 5,000 missionaries plant churches, build hospitals, serve in disaster relief and other various ministries!

We also support "Fires of Revival Ministries," which operates under the leadership of Bro. Jimmy Robertson. "Fires" produces a quarterly publication of the same name that is sent to more than 50,000 churches and individuals across the country. The heart of "Fires" is to renew the messages of prayer, faith, repentance, holiness & revival in the church of America! Westway Baptist rejoices over the opportunity to support such a wonderful ministry!

4. Our World: Being a part of the SBC enables us to give through the most powerful missions giving tool known to man: the Cooperative Program! Through the cooperative program we are able to help support an additional 5,000 plus missionaries world wide! CP giving also helps to fund seminaries and seminary students being trained to be ministers of the gospel!

5. Nicaragua: The Lord has been so gracious to open a door for our church to help reach Nicaragua with the gospel. We have partnered with Bro. Sonny Holland who is an evangelist from Clinton, LA. Bro. Sonny has received a Macedonian call to preach Jesus in Nicaragua. We have been blessed to support this ministry both with our financial giving as well as our physical presence on the field there in short-term mission trips. Medical & preaching teams are taken in to minister to the people of this poor and destitute country. It is our joy to be used of God to share His blessed and Holy Word!

Unamed Missionaries:

Undisclosed Area: We support missonaries who live in areas where Chrisianity is very much in the minority. As such, to reveal their names and location could place them in danger. And so, we ask you to pray for them. The Lord knows who they are as well as their needs. Pray for safety, security, provision and the anointing of the Lord upon their ministry!
